Photoshop wasn’t as powerful back then, and there weren’t GitHub libraries available for a water ripple effect. One of my friends, who was quite interested in 3D math, and I were just sophomores in junior high at the time. While learning OpenGL, trigonometry became my daily companion. However, I hadn’t properly studied it in math class or from a book; it was merely a means to create a complex 3D game.

When attempting to replicate a water ripple effect, I realized it all boiled down to math, albeit different from 3D math. With some assistance from my friend, we tweaked the equations, and voilà, we were successful. We could now render a water ripple effect on any image.
