Just before I left Indonesia to study in Michigan, an ex-actress approached me to help a company build its customer database. They asked me how much it would cost, but at that time, despite having created hundreds of software, I didn't fully grasp the business side of it. The person came back with an offer. It wasn't significant, but it was higher than the minimum monthly salary for work that took only a few days. It marked my first paying customer—a car service or rental company, though I'm not entirely sure. If I could return in time, I would ditch the University of Michigan and start building a software business in Jakarta. LOL.
